Diaper Lab Testing: How an Independent Review Works

Diaper packages carry plenty of seals, and hardly anyone explains what sits behind them. We had our Premium Diapers reviewed by an independent lab, and we want to show you what actually happens there. This article walks through the testing steps, puts the results in context, and names what a report like this cannot do.

  • All five sizes of our Premium Diapers were tested in June and July 2026 by SGS Institut Fresenius (test report no. 8114502).
  • The mechanical testing simulates dropping, pulling, pressing, and twisting, then looks for sharp edges and small parts that could be swallowed.

Why we chose outside testing

A diaper sits directly against your baby’s skin for many hours a day. We can say ourselves that we source and produce carefully. That only becomes verifiable when someone on the outside measures it, someone who owes us nothing.

So we sent samples of all five sizes to SGS Institut Fresenius, an accredited testing lab within the SGS group. The lab knows nothing about our sales targets or the results we might prefer. It measures and writes down what comes out.

What exactly was tested?

Testing ran from June through July 2026 and had two parts: a mechanical stress test and a chemical analysis of the materials used. The lab examined Newborn (2-5 kg), Mini (3-6 kg), Midi (6-11 kg), Maxi (9-14 kg), and Junior (12-17 kg), meaning the complete range from our diaper category.

Drop tests and pull tests: what is the point with a diaper?

The mechanical testing follows the US standard 16 CFR 1500.50, a use and abuse simulation. Put simply, the lab deliberately treats the product the way it should never be treated in daily life, then looks at what is left.

That includes a drop test, compression, tension, and torque. With a diaper, this targets the adhesive fasteners and the elastic side panels above all. A baby tugs at the fastener, an older sibling yanks on it, the diaper falls from the changing table to the floor.

After the stress phase, the lab looks specifically for three things: sharp edges, pointed parts, and small pieces that have come loose and could end up in a mouth. That is exactly where a fastener can fail without anyone noticing during a normal diaper change. Our diapers passed this part of the testing.

The chemical analysis: lead, plasticizers, heavy metals

For the chemical work, the lab took apart six materials and analyzed each one separately: fastener, label, elastic side panels, inner nonwoven, outer material, and the packaging. Every component was assessed on its own rather than the diaper as a whole.

Lead was not detectable in any of the six materials. Eight phthalates, the plasticizers that make plastics pliable, were also not detectable. In the broader heavy metal screening, all values came in within the limits. In two materials the lab found antimony in a small amount, well below the limit of 60 ppm.

Why we do not sell “not detectable” as “zero”

Every measurement method has a detection limit. Below that limit, an instrument can no longer reliably tell whether a substance is present in traces or not present at all. So “not detectable” means this: if something is there, it sits below what the method can capture. That is a good result, though it is a mathematical zero, and we do not phrase it that way.

What the report does not say

A test report is a snapshot of submitted samples. It describes what the lab measured on those specific units in June and July 2026. It is no promise for every single diaper that ever leaves our warehouse.

That requires ongoing control in production, consistent suppliers, and repeat testing at regular intervals. The report does not replace any of that, it is one checkpoint within it. Anyone presenting an external test as a permanent guarantee is stretching what such a document can do.

These are also US testing standards drawn from the CPSIA framework and ASTM F963. This testing adds to our existing certifications Dermatest HypoSense, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, and FSC rather than replacing any of them. You can read more about our criteria under our standards.

And what does this mean for your baby’s skin?

Chemical screenings and mechanical tests say something about material safety. They say nothing about whether your baby will get a sore bottom. Redness and diaper rash depend heavily on how often you change, moisture, fit, and individual skin sensitivity.

If your baby’s skin stays red, weeps, or shows open areas, that is not something to solve through your choice of diaper. Talk with your midwife or your pediatrician in that case. For daily cleansing, our baby care range offers mild products made for sensitive skin.

The right size for your baby

  • Newborn: 2 to 5 kg, for the first weeks.
  • Mini: 3 to 6 kg.
  • Midi: 6 to 11 kg.
  • Maxi: 9 to 14 kg.
  • Junior: 12 to 17 kg.

The weight ranges overlap on purpose. What matters is that the diaper closes well at the tummy and around the legs without digging in.

How to read testing claims on diapers

When you come across testing claims on other products, four questions help: who tested, when, what exactly, and against which standard? If one of those is missing, the claim is hard to place.

A credible note names the lab, the time frame, the materials examined, and the testing basis. Phrases like “tested quality” without those details are not a test result, they are a self-description. If you have questions about our report, you can reach us through the contact page.
